Louis C. Vaccaro
 
Louis C. Vaccaro has served as president of several colleges, including two interim assignments at Trinity College of Vermont and Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. He has served as president of The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y., Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan; and Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire.
Early in his career, he served in a variety of administrative and faculty positions at St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana; California State University-Northridge; Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and the University of Portland, Oregon.
During the 1966-67 academic year, he completed post-doctoral studies in organizational sociology at The University of Oregon.
Dr. Vaccaro earned his bachelor of arts degree in economics and social sciences as well as a master of arts degree from the University of Southern California, and completed a second master’s degree at California State University in Northridge. He finished his doctorate in higher education and sociology at Michigan State University.
The author and editor of six books and nearly 100 articles and book reviews, Dr. Vaccaro’s most recent focus has been in the fields of higher education and organizational change. He was awarded a Kellogg Fellowship by Michigan State University and a grant from the Exxon Foundation for research in strategic planning.
In the mid-1970s, Dr. Vaccaro began a 10-year, part-time assignment as a lecturer and consultant in Brazil, first under the auspices of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University and later with the Latin American Studies Center of Michigan State University.
In 1978, Dr. Vaccaro started lecturing and consulting part-time in China. Since then, he has traveled to China on 20 occasions, arranging several bilateral student and faculty exchange programs with leading Chinese colleges and universities.
Throughout his career, he has been a frequent contributor to higher education organizations in various parts of the United States. During the 1975-76 academic year, he served as chair of the New Hampshire Post-Secondary Education Commission. He later served as chair of the Independent College Fund of New York.
Dr. Vaccaro has received several awards and honors, including honorary degrees from Vermont College of Norwich University, St. Martin’s College, Olympia, Washington; and The College of Saint Rose in Albany. In 1996, he was named Honorary Distinguished Professor of Dalian Normal University in Chin, and in 2001 he was named Honorary President of Aurora College in Shanghai, China.
He also was honored by the University of Albany, SUNY, as the Academic Citizen Laureate Awardee in 1995, and in 1989 received the Golden Lion Award from the Sons of Italy, Intangible Lodge, Albany.
During February and March of 2004, Dr. Vaccaro was the Fulbright Senior Specialist in Honduras at the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazon (UPNFM).
A native Californian, Dr. Vaccaro and his wife, Linda, make their permanent home in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are the parents of five daughters and two sons.
